Historical Routes

Sightseeing of historical places from April to October, every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Advance booking (one week previously) for Bulgarian groups and for groups speaking English (minimum 10 people). The sightseeing hours can be agreed upon with the group. We provide only guides.

  • The Holy Ghost Church, Bulgarian revival period houses (Meramov's house, Prisadov's house), natural landmark „The Plane Tree“, the Mosque.
  • The old city centre – Svoboda (Freedom) Square – monumental art from the socialist and democracy periods, Orpheus and Eurydice sculptures, St. George Church
  • The new city centre – St. Visarion of Smolyan Church, the building of the Rhodope's Drama Theatre Nikolay Haytov, Orpheus and Eurydice sculptures and the sculptures of Nikolay Haytov and Hasan Meshov, the monument to Vladimir Serafimov.
  • Raykovo Quarter – St. Nedelya and St. Theodor Stratilatus Churches, architectural reserve Cheshitska Mahala ( the brothers Cheshitevi's house, Milyon Cheshitev's house, Gyordzhev's house, Cheshitevi's fountain), the memorial ossuary of soldier's who perished in wars.
  • Ustovo quarter – St. Nicholas Church, the old Ustovo houses – Sheremetev's, Hadzhichonev's and Petko Takov's houses, the memorial wall of Bulgarian enlighteners.

2. St. Panteleymon and St. St. Kozma and Damian Chapels, the Kaleto Fortress, natural sites Nevyastata (the Bride) and Torluka – a cultural historical route.
3. Smolyan's Waterfall, Balieva voda spring - a cultural historical route.
4. Momchil's Fortress (socialized archaeological site), 22 km from Smolyan.
